What words might one use to describe San Ignacio, Belize? Hotel, resort, Maya ruins, ATM, rivers, vacation or perhaps super fricking awesome? Some might even say expensive and dirty. San Ignacio Belize - A stary, stary night at Lower Dover Jungle LodgeMost would agree that rum and pirates should be on the list one way or another, but for many, San Ignacio Belize isn't really a place that can be summed up so simply. It's a place where time itself doesn't even fully apply. You could be a 75 year old cabbie who is still driving, or someone that didn't have any plans of staying and just forgot to leave... 3 years later. What ever it is though, it's well worth seeing.

Aside from sitting around and drinking rum, you might want to check out some of the more movement-required activities. If you are looking for some place to sleep there are a hand full of full service resorts, but the real beauty is in the lodges. They come in all shapes and sizes, and they are always unique. In the San Ignacio proper, you can find some good hotels, but make sure that if you are looking for something quiet you aren't too close to Burns Ave.

Mountain Equestrian Trails

Mountain Equestrian Trails is pretty much the essence of "jungle lodge". It's a Four-Globe certified Belize Ecotourism Jungle Lodge in Mountain Pine Ridge, where you can do anything form horseback riding tours to hiking to bird watching and river cave exploration. You'll also find butterfly gardens, waterfalls, and they do tours to Caracol, Xunantunich, El Pilar and Tikal (in Guatemala).

The cabanas at Mountain Equestrian Trails (MET) are done in a rather roomy Spanish style. They all come with private bathrooms and of course hot water. A Black orchid (the national flower of Belize) at Mountain Equestrian Trails in Pine Ridge just outside San Ignacio, Belize As far as eating goes, you won't find much better than the Cantina. They do three meals a day, including delicious breakfasts, gourmet lunches and home-style dinners featuring locally grown fresh fruits & vegetables. You can order both Belizean and International dishes.

All in all, if you are looking for a jungly paradise to escape to, or just a nice place, with nice people, to stay for a few nights - Mountian Equestrian Trails is the place to go.
